SAM JAY GOLD is an performer, director, creator, and teaching artist based in New York City.

As a PERFORMER, Sam works and continues to train as an actor, puppeteer, and mover. He is a member of Roman Paska's Dead Puppet, performing most recently in Echo In Camera. Sam studied traditional forms of puppetry around the world as a 2011/2012 Thomas J. Watson Fellow and trained for many years as a Corporeal Mime with Thomas Leabhart. As an actor, recent credits include Blossom (Dixon Place), All We Have Left (Eugene O'Neill Theatre Center, La MaMa), Venice Double Feature (HERE Arts) and Trusty Sidekick Theatre Company's We Are All Tourists (NYC Highline).

When working as a DIRECTOR, Sam focuses on inventive approaches to storytelling on camera. His work has received national broadcast, won awards in festivals, and been featured on NPR. Sometimes, he works with kids to make monster movies using in-camera practical effects. He often serves as Director for work within Martian Media, part of the TONY award winning entertainment company, Martian Entertainment, where he serves as a Creative/Producer.

Sam the CREATOR likes get in on the ground floor of new projects. He strives to explore new avenues for storytelling and places a particular emphasis on ensemble-driven, collaborative development. His own, original work has been featured at venues including the 9no Fesitval de Mimo en el Caribe, the Bali Arts Festival, the Puppets on Film Festival at BAM, Action, Scene, Voice: 21th Century Dialogues with Edward Gordon Craig, the Independent Television Festival, SeriesFest, and NYTVF.

Sam's work as a TEACHING ARTIST spans disciplines and age groups. He is a physical theater teacher at the Professional Performing Arts School and a member of the teaching artist ensemble at The New Victory Theatre, where he helps develop and teach new curriculum in workshops, residencies, and public engagements events through the New York City school system. He also teaches independently on a variety of subjects including Balinese Wayang Kulit, Corporeal Mime, Scene Study, Statue Posing, and more.

Whether it's on stage, behind the camera, or in a classroom, Sam strives to make work that celebrates hard work, creative expression, thoughtful collaboration, and the human spirit. He is always on the lookout for new opportunities for growth and development as a performer, artist, and good human.
